Interview with Eric Weaver of 12 Stones
| QC Music: Hey Eric, how's it going? |
| 12 Stones: Good man, not to bad. |
| QC Music: How did your acoustic show at Be-Bop records go yesterday? |
| 12 Stones: It went pretty good. |
| QC Music: Was there a pretty big turnout? |
| 12 Stones: Yeah, we probably had about two hundred people or so show up. |
| QC Music: I'm sorry to hear about your tour with Creed being postponed, I'm sure you guys are really bummed out about that. 12 Stones: Yeah it was a real drag but, everything happens for a reason. |
| QC Music: Are there any immediate plans to reschedule or anything that your aware of? |
| 12 Stones: No, we are just going to keep on doing what we have been doing and go to clubs and play big radio markets that we are getting spun at and stuff like that and wait until June. |
| QC Music: I heard that your band's name is taken from the bible, can you elaborate on that? |
| 12 Stones: Yeah, it’s from the third and fourth chapters of Joshua where they cross the river Jordan and the priest walk into the river and it dried up and the nation walked through it. God told the leaders of twelve tribes to go and gather twelve stones and keep them at the camp for protection and such. It’s just a symbol of strength and protection. |
| QC Music: Some people are classifying your music as rock and some are calling it Christian rock, what are your thoughts on this? |
| 12 Stones: It’s definitely rock music, take it as you will. Were all Christian guys but were in no way trying to preach to anybody. We just try to spread a positive message. Hope everyone understands that no matter how bad it gets there is always a way to overcome it and move forward. | |
| QC Music: When your band writes the songs for the album, does everyone partake in that or is it mainly Pauls doing? |
| 12 Stones: Oh no, it’s all spread out amongst us. | |
| QC Music: Where do you get your ideas for the songs? |
| 12 Stones: Ummmm, I don’t know they just kinda come out (laughs). | |
| QC Music: From personal experiences? |
| 12 Stones: Yeah a lot of it is personal, especially lyrically. | |
| QC Music: A big congratulations on landing My Life on the Scorpion King Soundtrack, that is doing very well on the charts right now. How were you able to arrange that? |
| 12 Stones: We were just lucky enough, they really liked the songs and wanted to put it on there for us. | |
| QC Music: When you're up on stage performing do you have a certain song you like to play? |
| 12 Stones: I like them all, I just like playing period. I really do like to play Open Your Eyes, Eric's Song and The Way I Feel. | |
| QC Music: What is it like working with your producer Jay Baumgardner? I hear he is extremely talented and a super nice guy? |
| 12 Stones: Jay is a very nice guy. He did take our music and make some arrangement changes and things like that. He made it so people could sit there and listen to the whole entire album without getting bored, Jay did a really nice job producing it. | |
| QC Music: When your playing different clubs across the country or wherever it may be, what are the ups and downs that come with that? | |
| 12 Stones: Hell, we just go out and sometimes we play for like 5 people. Yeah it’s a drag but we still put on a show for 2 people or 2000 people. Were all about putting on a good show. A lot of the times being on the RV and trying to sleep with 7 guys on there kinda drains you a lot. | |
| QC Music: Besides your hometown of course, what city do you love to play in? |
| 12 Stones: (Laughs) New Orleans has actually been the funnest , even though that's where we are from. | |
| QC Music: While your attending the venue’s where you perform, are there any 12 Stones pre show rituals that go on? |
| 12 Stones: We get together, pump ourselves up and put our hands in and do a 123 Go 12 Stones; that type of thing. It’s really no big deal though, we just kind of huddle up and pep ourselves up before we play every time. | |
| QC Music: From everything that is out there right now, what do you personally like to listen to? |
| 12 Stones: Out there right now, nothing really. | |
| QC Music: What in the past do you like? |
| 12 Stones: I like classic rock and blues, that's my favorite kind of music. My favorite modern artist would have to be 311, they are amazing musicians and have awesome messages. | |
| QC Music: If you could spend one day with any musician you wanted to, alive or dead, who would it be? |
| 12 Stones: It would have to be a toss between Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Really and truly I would have to go with Stevie Ray Vaughan. Well....I don't know, that's a tough one now that I think about it. | |
| QC Music: It's a very tough choice, both have great music. | |
| QC Music: For the people that are in small/local bands right now, do you have any advice for them in making it big? |
| 12 Stones: We weren't doing anything special at the time we were discovered. There's a lot of bands out there that are just as good as we are, a lot of it just being lucky - being at the right place at the right time. As far as advice, it's rather hard to explain but, just be open to suggestions. If someone says your song might sound better if you make a change in the studio, give it a try. Be open to suggestions as well as criticism, it's only going to help you in the future. Don't get bummed out by people saying your not going to make it, just keep doing what your doing and eventually it will happen if it's supposed to. | |
